Differences in tactics in the struggle against the regime gave rise to numerous organisations. Amongst the socialists, the dominant organisation was the Socialist Movement of Catalonia, although it underwent an internal split in 1969. The Unified Socialist Party of Catalonia was much better organised in secret. The left-wing nationalist movement included two groups, the National Front of Catalonia and the Social Party of National Liberation. The Christian and liberal Catalanist movement founded Democratic Convergence of Catalonia in 1974.
