Defeat and Recovery
The Long Postwar Period
The Resistance

From the outset, small groups of citizens opposed the new regime. The FNC (National Front of Catalonia), the CNT and the POUM (Workers' Party of Marxist Unification) organised resistance networks. In 1945, Catalan Solidarity, the National Alliance of Democratic Forces of Catalonia and the National Council of Catalan Democracy were set up. Urban guerrilla attacks and workers' strikes were common occurrences up to 1947. When it became evident that the allies would take no action against Franco, the resistance collapsed and the repression grew harsher.
