The first mention of the name Catalonia appears in a Pisan chronicle dating from 1115. The designation of "Catalan" also appears in the oath of fidelity sworn by the men of Carcassonne to Ramon Berenguer III. The restoration of the Metropolitan See of Tarragona in 1118 and the signing of the first international treaty with Frederick of Sicily in 1127 are evidence of the consolidation of the political sovereignty of Catalonia. The translation into Catalan of the Forum Iudicum and the Homilies d'Organyà, the oldest known writings in the Catalan language, date from the end of the 12th century.
