Between 470 and 475, the Visigothic armies from Toulouse occupied the coast of the Tarraconensis. In 506, the Franks expelled the Visigoths from Toulouse and Septimania was the only area of Gaul left in the hands of the Visigoths, who established a kingdom with its capital in Toledo. The lands of the Tarraconensis and Septimania revolted against the Visigoths, and despite some contributions from the Germanic tribe, retained their cultural features: Roman law prevailed, as did the Church. Trade grew strong in port cities where Jewish, Greek and Syrian minorities settled.
